      OPEN WATER TRAINING WITH A.A.U.

Open Water classes are conducted on a regular basis, over 2 consecutive weekends. The first weekend covers basic knowledge and pool skills. The second weekend is usually one day at the dive park, Catalina Island and one day on the Sea Bass, a dive charter boat. All in all, we give you 6 open water dives. 2 more than required, but that’s our goal at AAU. The more time we give you, the more you’ll love the diving here in Southern California.

AAU prides itself on thorough training, safety and care for the students and dive environment. We always have small classes, with absolutely no more than 8 students at any time. Assistants are with each instructor for more personal attention.

We do not beach dive, simply because it is not fun, not easy and not safe. We take you diving to have FUN. The dive park fee is $95, which includes the Catalina Express return trip, transportation of your gear to and from the dive park (you will be happy about this!) and air fills. The dive boat fee varies on the boat used, but the current cost for the Sea Bass trip is $135. This includes breakfast and lunch, air fills and boat ride out and back to Santa Catalina Island.

The course fee is broken down for easy payment and understanding, as follows:

$135 - tuition fee

$55 - study materials (OW crew-pack)

$25 - PADI certification fee

$75 - rental of primary scuba gear (wet suit, regulator, BCD, weights, tank)

Students are required to purchase their own personal equipment: mask, fins, boots, gloves, snorkel, dive bag and a timing device; but students also receive a special 20% discount on purchases during their training. The rental equipment is top of the line: Scubapro, Atomic and Oceanic; and all rental equipment is serviced regularly.

OPEN WATER TRAINING SCHEDULE 2008

On the Intro Day: you will pick up your personal equipment, home work assignments, and get an orientation of the course.

During your Academics, Pool Days: you will spend half the day in our private pool practicing basic self-confidence exercises; while during the other half you will learn dive fundamentals in the classroom.

During your Ocean Days: you will put everything you learned in the pool and the class into practice; but most importantly, you will have fun while diving off one of our boats!!!
